While in Mungindi the Cup will take front and centre stage at a barbecue lunch hosted by the Mungindi Jockey Club at the local RSL, before going on to visit several local icons including the Mungindi Racecourse and the One Ton Post.
Mungindi Jockey Club vice president, Sam Heagney said the community is excited to host the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour.
He said he is looking forward to celebrating the history and culture of the ‘race that stops a nation™’.
“Being a part of the tour is a fantastic opportunity for locals and the wider district to gather and support each other through our love of horses and racing,” Mr Heagney said.
Joining the Tour is Melbourne Cup winning jockey John Letts, who will share firsthand his unique Melbourne Cup winning story.
VRC Chief Executive, Mr Simon Love, said they are looking forward to sharing the iconic trophy with the people of Mungindi.
“The Emirates Melbourne Cup is a cultural icon in Australia so it’s only fitting that we take the Cup, and its rich history, on a journey to meet the people,” Mr Love said.
Mungindi residents are encouraged to upload images with the Cup to Instagram using #EmiratesMelbourneCup and #PeoplesCup for the chance to win a trip for two to 2016 Emirates Melbourne Cup Day.
