Riders from all over New South Wales, plus some keen competitors from Queensland and Victoria, came together from July 2 to 10 to compete in their choice of showjumping, showriding, jumping equitation, dressage and combined training.
It was a long way to travel however well worth it when each girl came home with ribbons and awards. The Zone 8 team was made up of Phoebe Oates riding Storm (Garah-Boomi Pony Club), Jaime Clissold riding Louie (Moree Pony Club), Amy Cleal riding Dixie Chick (Warialda Pony Club) and Jess Towns riding Snip (Gravesend Pony Club).
The Championships started with showjumping and all girls competed well. Phoebe Oates ended up as the reserve champion for under 13 years A/B grade, Jess Towns was reserve champion for 15 to 17 years A grade. Amy Cleal achieved seventh overall for 15 to 17 years A grade and Jaime Clissold achieved equal first overall for 15 to 17 years B grade.
The team claimed the Zone Award for the highest point scoring zone team.
Phoebe was then one of four NSW riders with the highest point score to win the Champion State Award.
Jaime and Louie stayed on to compete throughout the rest of remaining week of state competitions. Again more success came her way with achieving a fourth place in her hack height class, fifth overall in jumping equitation, 16th overall in dressage and sixth overall for combined training.
