A person from every soccer club involved in the NIFA was nominated for the award. “Its awesome, I was away at the time I asked the treasurer to go to Tamworth to accept the award for me,” she said.
“The award is mainly for volunteer services throughout the years for what people have done through the years.”
Sharples had been involved with Moree junior soccer for the past 14 years.
“I do it because I love soccer and I have always been involved in soccer. I just love seeing the joy on the children’s faces on Saturday morning,” Sharples said.
“My son played for two years when he was eight, when he left I stayed on.”
Sharples started at the club as a referee and continued that for a year, she then became more involved with the committee.
After a few years she was nominated as president and has stayed in that position for 10 years.
“The president role is like any other member of the club, you turn up to help out.” she said.
When the season begins Sharples organises registration days and the volunteers, once that’s done she organises children into age groups.
“I ask volunteers to help out with teams; you name the teams, work out canteen roster. It’s all behind the scenes and organisation. I would like to thank senior soccer for nominating me.”
