GDL stud stock manager, Harvey Weyman-Jones, says average bull prices have been declining in recent years due to tough seasonal conditions.
“In response less bulls are hitting the market this year.”
He says the studs have cut the tail from their sale draft which means cattle producers will be able to upgrade the quality of the bulls they buy with their money.
“Buying better bulls will breed better cattle and this is the year for producers to take advantage of the market conditions.”
Mr Weyman-Jones says the trend is apparent in the line-up of 130 bulls at the Balonne Bull Sale on Monday, September 8 at “Myall Plains”, Nindigully.
Selling agents GDL and Elders have undertaken a major overhaul of the established, multi-vendor Balonne Bull Sale bringing in four new vendors and a new breed to improve the variety of genetics cattlemen will have access to on the one day at the one sale.
“If you want to talk about some of the top genetics at the Balonne Bull Sale then a perfect example is that a bull sired by Dangarfield Quarterback will be in the auction. Santa Gertrudis breeders will realise just how special this opportunity is.”
Mr Weyman-Jones says based on the genetics and visual quality this is the best line-up of bulls ever presented at the Balonne Bull Sale.
The four new vendors at the sale will be Dangarfield Santa Gertrudis Stud Taroom, Greenup Eidsvold Santa Gertrudis, Mooroobie Angus Stud Goondiwindi and Elkay Two Droughtmaster Stud Bungunya.
Continuing to present bulls this year are Carabar Angus Stud Meandarra, Karajabie Brangus Stud St George, Swan Hill Santa Gertrudis Stud Blackall and Fairfield Charolais Stud Roma.
