The local boxer will be appearing on the Anthony Mundine v John Wayne Parr event, Worlds Collide, at the Cbus Super Stadium at the Gold Coast on Saturday, November 30.
Promoted by DDP Sports Management and BOXA, Worlds Collide stands to be the biggest boxing event to date to take place on the Gold Coast, and promises to deliver a pulsating event for fans across the nation.
The fight card will feature a star-studded line up of professional boxers, some Muay Thai action, some of Australia's best female boxers and an NRL State of Origin player.
Priestley, the current Australian Super Featherweight Champion will take on former Australian Lightweight Champion Miles Zalewski in a six-round bout, and could end up being the fight of the night as the two Australian champions face off.
Priestley will be stepping up a division to fight at Lightweight, while Zalewski has only been beaten in one fight at this weight division. Zalewski may be considered the favourite, but Priestley has been training the house down and feeling strong and confident that he can deliver Zalewski his second career defeat.
Trained out of the Moree Boxing and Fitness gym under the coaching of Chalky Rice and Mark Pitts, Priestley has had one of his best preparations leading up to a fight. Both coaches agree that he has improved as a fighter since winning the Australian title back in April this year.
Priestley has sparred more than 100 rounds of boxing preparing for this fight, sparring against the likes of Commonwealth Games gold medallist Andrew Maloney, who just won a world title, and also Billel Dib, the WBA Oceania Super Featherweight Champion. Priestley also sparred Shannan Davey and Shannon Doole, who are of a similar height to Zalewski .
"So far we have had to travel to Kingscliff on the coast, Sydney, Coonabarabran, Tooraweenah and Narrabri just so we could spar with this quality of boxers, and this would not be possible without the help of Tait Auto, O'Neill Concreting, Gwydir Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, Johnstone Concrete and Quarries and of course Moree Boxing and Fitness gym," Priestley said.
Rice said Priestley has been preparing for a tough six rounds, and is a disciplined trainer who always meets any challenge given to him.
"He has a strong mind, a great attitude and excellent discipline," Rice said.
"TC is excited to be given a shot at fighting on his idol Anthony Mundine's card."
Zalewski is a fitness fanatic, gym junkie, and has a highly self-confident personality. He likes to use his reach and speed to fight on the outside of his opponent and also has awesome ring craft ability, whereas Priestley is a very tough come-forward type of fighter who likes to continue to apply pressure and breaking his opponent down, and he lacks nothing in skill and fitness.
Rice and Pitts believe that Priestley has become a much smarter and more balanced fighter then earlier in his career. His fitness, speed and skill will give the Moree boxer the upper hand in this contest and they are quietly confident of a victory.
Priestley would like to thank the Moree community and sponsors for their ongoing support. If you'd like to follow him on Facebook he'll be putting up a site in which you'll be able to livestream and witness his fight on this upcoming event.
