The pair were selected first in the Armidale Diocese which led to their selection in the Polding team.
"A small group from the Diocese was selected in that, from there they progress to the Polding trials and then from there they select a full 11 to take away to the NSW PSSA competition," St Philomena's School sports coordinator Tony McDonnell said.
"They've been training pretty flat out."
At the state carnival, Barnes and Finlayson were up against some of the most talented cricketers in the state, but were able to hold their own over their four 40-over matches
Polding came away with one win, and were agonisingly close on the other two occasions.
Their first game came against Sydney South West who made a competitive 125, but Polding cruised to victory, chasing down the total just two wickets down.
Next up was South Coast who made an impressive score of 190, before Polding were bowled out for 95 in their run chase.
It was the next two matches where the Moree cricketers really stood out.
Up against North West, Polding made 190, where Finlayson made 51 not out. Unfortunately, Polding went down in a thriller, North West reaching the target in the final over.
In the final game against Sydney West, Polding posted 170, led by Barnes who made 62 opening the batting.
Again a close affair, Sydney West chased down the total with just a few overs remaining.
Adding to the representative honours at St Philomena's, Anna Lamey was selected in the girl's Polding team who will be competing in their state carnival in Camden next week.
