Although the area hasn't seen good rain for a long while, Jeff Nixon said dust wasn't too big of an issue.
Different soil types and consistent wind ensured dust wasn't a massive safety concern for riders over the weekend.
Including sweep riders, 660 lined up to take on the trail ride and only five were taken to hospital with injuries.
"We had St Johns Ambulance backing up local paramedics on site and we had a few injuries as usual. One fella was flown out by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter," Nixon said.
Daring riders took on the enchanted forest and from all reports had an absolute ball. After watching back some of the footage, Nixon was surprised at how many junior riders took on the challenge.
He said one junior, being followed by one of the experienced sweep riders, "left the big boys behind" in the enchanted forest.
"It's pretty amazing to see the younger ones take on the challenge. We have a couple of cameras set up through the middle of the forest so we know who goes through."
For those who opted out of the enchanted forest, plenty of variations were mixed through the trail to ensure everyone was tested in one way or another.
"We had hill climbs and utilised creeks because there's no water in the creeks this year. It was a lot of fun on the black soil," he said.
Riders travelled from Darwin, Townsville, Sydney and the coast.
An Endurocross challenge was set up in the ring with a few tires and logs so riders could compete against one another.
Nixon said the challenge bought crowds to the fence as entertainment.
"We'll expand that next year with some junior barrel races on Saturday night. I think the kids would love it in there. Everyone had plenty to eat and drink, it was a great camp crowd," he said.
You didn't have to ride to be a winner at North Star as more than $3000 worth of gear was given away. There was also a huge raffle put on by the P and C.
North Star's trail ride is always a great economic boost for the district drawing people from Croppa Creek, North Star and even Goondiwindi to help run the event.
"People pull up in towns and villages along the way to buy food and rest, we know places like Bingara, Moree, Inverell and Goondiwindi also benefit."
