At last Thursday’s council meeting, councillors voted to install ‘End B-Double and Road Train Route’ signs on Heber Street, at the intersection of Edward Street to clear up confusion for heavy vehicle drivers.
Council’s asset team raised the issue that heavy vehicle drivers are becoming lost at the intersection, instead continuing to drive through the non-designated route. In most cases, drivers are continuing along Heber Street and turning left at the traffic lights at the intersection of Heber and Balo Streets, which is not designed for the safe turning of heavy vehicles, and as a result, there has been a number of incidents at this location.
Councillors also resolved to install parking control signs, including disability parking facilities, on Frome Street, between the intersection of Heber and Gwydir Streets.
This will result in the parking arrangements being changed from 45 degree angle parking to 60 degree angle parking.
Two ‘no stopping’ signs will also be installed – one on the western side of Frome Street at the intersection with Gwydir Street, and another on Bridge Street.
