The clash between the Boomerangs and Eels last Saturday marked round 14 of the Toohey’s Group 19 Rugby League competition. It was also a chance for the Boomerangs to re-declare themselves as the titleholders of the NAIDOC Shield, after the team was dethroned last year.
The loss against the McIntyre Warriors in 2017 was especially painful as it was the first time the Boomerangs had ceded the shield.
Prior to their shock upset, the Boomerangs had consistently beaten the Inverell Hawks to win the coveted prize all three years since the inception of the shield.
