The lecture series will include the Howard Hinton Lecture on Australian art history, the Chandler Coventry Lecture on contemporary art and the F.T. Wimble Lecture on printing history and art.
“NERAM wanted to present a series of informative and entertaining talks that would provide the community with an opportunity to explore themes and ideas related to some of our key collection areas,” NERAM director Robert Heather said.
“Thanks to the support we receive from Packsaddle we will now be able to present some leading speakers who can provide audiences with an opportunity to learn about the world of art, printing and lots more.”
The first lecture in the series will be the inaugural F.T. Wimble Lecture on the art and history of printing on Friday, April 6 presented by Shane Carmody from the University of Melbourne as part of the 2018 Wimble’s Wayzgoose event.
“In over thirty years of Packsaddle fund-raising exhibitions, our committee has learned a lot about art and art-making...and the more we learn, the more we appreciate and enjoy,” said Packsaddle Co-Chair Glenda Kupczyk-Romanczuk.
“The floor talks we organise during our exhibitions have aimed to educate us and our supporters and have proved increasingly popular over the years.”
“The new Packsaddle Lecture Series extends our commitment to education, and with NERAM’s extensive contacts, will hopefully bring new insights for all of us over the years ahead.”
The first lecture will be the F.T. Wimble Lecture by visiting speaker Shane Carmody from the University of Melbourne who will present the lecture ‘Print and Passion: The impact and legacy of printed books in England’ at the New England Regional Art Museum at 6pm on Friday, April 6.
“This lecture is a must for anyone who loves books as Shane Carmody is a passionate speaker about rare books, the art of collecting them and printing history,” Mr Heather said.
“In this lecture he will explore some of the great private, public and university libraries and collections in Britain, the sometimes-quirky characters who collected them and the history of these amazing collections.”
Shane Carmody is a historian with a passion for libraries and archives. He held leadership positions at the National Archives of Australia and the State Library of Victoria and now works at the University of Melbourne.
The Packsaddle Lecture series has been made possible by Packsaddle and is supported by ADFAS Armidale.
