We the parents of Jack Rae, the kid that was in a terrible accident recently, have much to say about My Moree.
I was called by my husband telling me Jack had been hit by a truck; when I arrived at the scene I tried to calm my boy who asked me “Mum am I going to die?”.
My response was “Not on my watch matey, I love you too much”.
This kid must have been loved by all who worked on him.
What we have been told by not one, not two, not three; I could not begin to tell you how many doctors, specialists, surgeons and nurses here at John Hunter Hospital have questions how this miracle kid from Moree survived.
On October 18, 2017 at 8.20pm, Jack was hit by a truck. Within a very short period of time the ambulance turned up, it was my cousin Kelly, a paramedic and Larisha.
I thought “Okay, Kel will tell me he’s okay”.
She took charge through orders like I’ve never seen and had him in the back of that ambulance so safe and fast. It was the miracle number one- the first response team saved him from dying at the scene.
Miracle number two happened at the hospital with the fast actions of the medical team. I will never forget your name doctor Jim Reed you saved my son.
To Dr Boyd, Dr Omar, Dr Shinay, the nurses Steph sharp, Kim Brown, Robyn Ticehurst, Elky, Hollie and trainee Katie, from John Hunters point of view, he should never had made it past that golden hour.
Your quick response to Jack saved his life. He had tubes in the right places IV’s in and plenty of them so they moved fast at John Hunter, without trying to do them, you gave them extra time to do other things to save him.
You put him in a induced coma quickly that took pressure off his body and put the right drugs into him and kept him alive.
Miracle number three was when the retrieval team turned up, from what you all did made them get him out quick were he stayed stable all the way which in it’s self was a miracle.
My cousin Kate met Jack on the helipad and as she was running with them the team said “we can’t believe he made it and stayed stable”
They did an awesome job in Moree. At the time, we were still driving to Newcastle but knowing Jack he’s a fighter!
Kate got to see him and gave us updates.
My son went to surgery just before we arrived and after three hours we had a internationalrenowned Professor Orthopedic surgeon come out and quite frankly and bluntly say “he has too many injuries, we don’t think he will make it. But what the team at Moree have done is given this miracle kid from Moree a fighting chance.
“We will keep operating and fixing him until his body says no more”.
We got to see Jack nine hours later, alive, stable and many dubbing him the Miracle Kid from Moree.
Jack’s fighting spirit was met with this awesome team of doctors, nurses and ambos from Moree that has left me saying exactly why I love this town- My Moree.
