Heffernan will be in attendance along with all past members of the Railway Institute Tennis Club.
The Railway Institute provided two courts for their employees although there are no records to show when they were first established.
Heffernan was awarded life membership in 1966 for her dedication and work for the club.
She was actively involved in the running of the courts and became secretary in 1973, and it was mainly due to her dedication that tennis continued to be played there until 2007 when the courts were closed down due to the construction of the Moree bypass.
The council met with tennis club members in 2012 to discuss the possibility of constructing two courts at the back of the town courts in Endeavour Lane.
Last year all the paperwork was completed and the two courts, along with two hot-shot courts were built at the complex.
All members of the public are invited to attend the official opening on Thursday.
To RSVP call Rob on 0409 523692 or Doug on 6752 4014 for catering purposes.
