Crazy Clark’s and Sam’s Warehouse owners, Discount Super Group, was told its receivers plan to sell the profitable stores in order to fund an estimated $10 million in entitlements owed to workers.
Of the 143 stores state-wide as many as 30 will close in coming weeks.
However Michael Smith, spokesman from receivers KordaMentha, said a decision had not been made as to when the Moree store would close its doors. “As yet, Moree hasn’t been announced as closed,” he said.
All remaining stores have made heavy discounts on their stock, and shoppers are being encouraged to take advantage, as the proceeds will help to pay the entitlements owed to the company’s 2500 staff.
Last week 10 stores were announced and this week it is believed another group will join them.
“All our stores are in sale mode and they’re all analysed individually.
“Of the 143 stores we believe about 100 are trading profitably and employees will be paid by the end of September depending on what stock has been sold.”
Mr Smith said he encouraged local residents to pick up a bargain.
“The best thing the local community can do it to call in and grab a bargain,” he said.
“Most items are affordable without a sale being on.”
Mr Smith said the opportunity for Crazy Clark’s to continue to trade under the name was dependent on a buyer.
“A decision could be days away, it could be weeks, or it could be months. It all depends on a buyer.”
