Family Support manager, Felicity Curtis, said they used to have their own two venues for the vacation care but were damaged by first a flood and then a fire.
“We approached the acting principal at the school and were working out ideas of how to run the vacation care out of the school. The principal there has been very helpful and supporting from day one,” she said.
Family Support has now secured 12 months of vacation care at the school for a limit of
60 children.
The children of vacation care must be attending school and in the age group of five to 12-years-old.
“We do sporting activities, arts and crafts, and try and cater to the needs of each individual child’s needs because every child is different,” Ms Curtis said.
“We were looking at doing an after school care as well, but for now we are just sticking to running the vacation care in the school holidays,” she said.
The service officially started on January 2 and will run through to February 5.
“Although attendance numbers are down at the moment, it’s only the first week and is to be expected but we are all booked out and there are no more spaces available,” Ms Curtis said.
When the children in vacation care turn 13 they ‘drop-out’ of the service and a new space will open.
Meanwhile, Family Support recently farewelled their manager Theressa Oakenfull with Ms Curtis stepping up to take her place.
“It is not the same with Theressa gone but we wish her well. She had great respect from her employees and the committee and Family Support would not be as successful as it is now without her.
“Hopefully we can continue the services up to Theressa’s standards,” Ms Curtis said
