The hit show ran for 18 years and more than 800 episodes, introducing us to the likes of Danni Minogue, Tina Arena, Jane Scali, Jamie Redfern, Debra Byrne, Karen Knowles, Phillip Gould, John Bowles, Sally Boyden, Greg Mills, and Stephen Zammit.
Johnny Young was just 24 when it began, having spent 10 years in the rock 'n' roll scene, where he topped the charts with Step Back and Cara-lyn and later All My Loving, which became his signature tune.
In 1970, Young co-founded Lewis-Young Productions and a year later was asked by ATV-0 (Channel 10) to put a music show together to go up against other channels' footy replays.
"It was just a four-week contract, but we rated right from the start," Young says.
"I was a fan of The Mickey Mouse Club and I used to love the ending when they came together with the host Jimmie Dodd and sang the theme song. That's where All My Loving at end of the show came about.
"Still when I'm walking down the street, people will sing it to me. It's 50 years ago, but it resonated with so many generations. It was a variety show, it wasn't a kid's show, it was a family show."
To mark the 50th anniversary, Young and his team put together a three and a half hour special for the show's website.
"Then Channel 10 asked us to do the special. Danni and Tina are featured. We look at them when they were just starting out.
"I don't know the full content because I want to be surprised when I watch it. I am 74 now and this has been an exciting experience," Young says.
"There is so much love for Young Talent Time."
