The two sides slipped, slid and sloshed their way through the toughest of conditions on what could only be described as a boghole.
The Boars converted a 10-6 half time lead to secure two second half converted tries and an important win.
Winger Silas Haines had given the visitors a dream start when he regathered a kick near his own line then ran 90m to score a brilliant try that included a classic stutter step to beat Dungowan fullback Blair Maloney.
It was one of few mistakes made by Maloney and more the attacking ability of Haines to slip past Maloney as the Cowboy fullback slipped in the mud and couldn't regain his footing in time.
Twenty minutes later and Boars centre Joe Wade bullocked his way over out wide.
Dungowan had their moments in the first half but couldn't control the cake of soap before Brett Jarrett crashed over out wide. He then converted from out wide with a marvellous kick to make it 10-6 at the break.
A scudding shower of rain then helped dampen the day even further before Holt Cubis was ruled to have lost the ball in the act of scoring for the Boars. He then spent 10 minutes in the sin-bin for an indiscretion.
Down to 12 men, Moree was far from down and lock Brent McDonald scrambled over for a deserving try for Adrian Smith to convert.
Moree halfback Michael Watton then settled the game when an errant Dungowan pass from a scrum win on their 20m slipped between legs and arms before Watton arrive and kicked the muddied ball ahead. It rolled over the line, under the posts, for Watton to force and Smith to convert for a 22-6 lead.
In the final minute Cowboys centre Jone Marau was sin-binned for Moree hooker Stan Swan to kick a left foot penalty and a 24-6 win.
"A beautiful day for football," said Brett Jarrett, one of Dungowan's best, in an ironic post match jest.
"A very hard slog," he sighed.
"It's the toughest game I've played for a long while," added Cowboys lock Lochie Collins.
"The wettest, muddiest game I've ever played in, that's for sure. It was a bit like last week, a slog fest".
Cowboy captain-coach Shaun Ferguson was full of praise for his young side.
"We defended well on our own line, real well," Ferguson said.
"They had a lot of possession on our line."
He said every one of the Cowboys played their hearts out with special mention for fullback Maloney, Lochie Collins and Cody Byrne.
"He's not 60kg," he joked after a previous week's report from Werris Creek co-coach Cody Tickle had wondered at his great game in the backrow despite his lack of size.
"He's 70," Ferguson roared to which Byrne raised his muddied head and replied with "71kg" with a huge smile as the jokes then flowed about his weight and slender appendages.
Moree halfback Mick Watton also gave Maloney a huge wrap.
"He had his eye on me the whole game, wherever I moved, left or right, he moved too," the Boar pivot said of a game where he was looking for any good kicking opportunity.
"He was outstanding," Watton said of the opposition fullback's defusing of low, grubbering kicks.
Moree captain-coach Ben Williams was delighted to win such a tight and tough match.
"We slogged it out just a bit better than them," he said.
"Brenton (Cochrane) pulled out late (foot injury) didn't help. Had to make a few changes which moved him from fullback to five-eighth and Tom Ryan to the back.
"Brent (McDonald) had a massive game for us, put his hand up, didn't have to ask, to run the ball."
McDonald, one of the smaller players on the field, took one or two runs in almost each set of six for the Boars.
"He's not the biggest but makes up for it with his heart. Mick (Watton) was great too, turned them around with his kicking to give us good field position."
