Moree looked like a scene from an apocalyptic movie on Thursday night, as gale-force winds blew in thick, red dust, blanketing the town in a red, dusty haze.

In the space of only a few minutes, residents saw the dust rolling in at about 8pm before everything turned red.
You couldn't stand outside without the dust penetrating into your eyes, mouth and covering you in a layer of dirt.
"It felt like a sand storm, hitting my glasses and stinging my skin!" local resident Julie Taylor said, describing the storm from the safety of her garage.

Wind gusts of up to 117 kilometres per hour were recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology from 8.05pm until 8.11pm, which caused plenty of destruction around town and a number of near-misses.
One resident sent the Moree Champion a video of an irrigation sprinkler which had blown up against a speed limit sign on the Gwydirfield Road. The man said he most likely would have been hit by the sprinkler if it wasn't for the speed sign, which got in the way.
There were other reports of a backyard shed blowing away, and a tree falling on a clothesline, narrowly missing the family's car and house.
Trees and branches were down all around town, and on Friday morning council workers had a busy job cleaning them all up.
While the storm only brought dust and strong winds to Moree, surrounding areas reported rainfall.
One resident recorded 23 millimetres between Pallamallawa and Gravesend, while others reported about 15mm at Pallamallawa.
