Well he is right and wrong.
Climate change, this drought and the fires are caused by the unsustainable human overpopulation of this planet.
Scientists, like Norman Borlaugh, the father of the Green Revolution, who saved millions of people around the world from starvation by breeding rust resistant dwarf wheat (the kind we grow now), said in his acceptance speech for the 1970 Peace Nobel Prize: "If the frightening power of human reproduction is not curbed, my work will be for nothing".
In the 70s about 30 scientists, the Club of Rome, tried to spread his warning, but were ridiculed by big business, the Catholic Church and economists, who found the present model of a forever growing economy more to their corporate liking. Bugger those who will be here when the scheme blows up.
They managed to make the word "Overpopulation" taboo. Our generations have wasted 50 years, with the number of humans in the world more than doubling since then.
It is not today's community leaders' fault, this happened.
What is wrong is, that they still believe in an ever growing economy in a world with finit resources.
Overpopulation can only be solved humanly, by couples having no more than two babies. Having more in these uncertain times, because you love children is an oxymoron. I would not want to be alive in 50 years.
The Greens worldwide should be pushing this message, as they claim to be here for the protection of our environment.
But apparently they say, it is racist to tell people how many children to have. It would have been easier 50 years ago, but here we are.
As a farmer I don't like regular back burning. It is the future topsoil we are putting into the atmosphere. That method was sustainable for Aborigines.
They only had to feed a small population. We have kangaroos living off our lawn and leaving fertiliser pellets in return. Symbiosis.
