On Friday, September 13 they hosted their 25th annual club competition at the Moree and District Services Club. This competition is the club's way of hosting a small, fun, competition for just their members in preparation for the main zone competitions. It is also an opportunity for members to invite their family and friends who might not be able to make it to a competition later in the year.
This year, Moree was delighted to welcome judges Chris Hodges and Jenny Murray of the Tamworth club to help with the evening. These two ladies hold a special place with the Moree club; Chris was the judge of the very first Moree club comp in 1995 and Jenny has been the New England Junior Zone Head since before Moree became a club 25 years ago. These ladies have been wonderful supporters, mentors and friends of the Moree club. It was very special to have them at the event. Life Member and Club Founder, Kristine Lawson, was unfortunately not able to attend the event as a special guest.
The club's youngest members opened the night with a very cute performance of everything they have been learning this year. These two, three and four-year-old members attend class once a week to learn the basics of physie, increase co-ordination and introduction to rhythm, as well as learning wiggle, giggling and lots of fun! Dancers Frieda Tesoriero, Jean Gilbert, Savannah Albert, Hannah Black, Olivia Harte, Amity and Violet Bowhay wowed the crowd with their cuteness and kicked off a great display of dance.
All club members were able to take to the floor and perform their routines for the judges and audience. Prizes were awarded by the judges to each age group and some girls were selected to proceed to extra dance and marching competitions. But don't think this competition is exclusive to members... all men who attended including dads, brothers, husbands and even some grandfathers were all invited and participated in their very own marching competition. Five-year-old Archie Shields was so keen to try and win the trophy that he put on a pink leotard and sparkly headband. Unfortunately, Archie was beaten out by Ben Hunt for the perpetual trophy.
The night was finished off with the cutting of a cake to celebrate the 25th anniversary and the unveiling of the 25th anniversary singlet and 2019-2020 sponsors. The club would like to thank their major sponsor for a second year running, Pally Pub, as well as minor sponsors Raine & Horne, Bella Santé, Inland Technology and Synergy Physiotherapy for their support.

The following weekend on September 21 and 22, Moree's ladies and seniors attended their zone competition in Coffs Harbour. This major competition sees the club compete against others from all over the Far North Coast and New England. Clubs from Tamworth, Armidale, Lismore, Casino, Grafton, Coonabarabran, Muswellbrook, Lennox Head, Alstonville, Manning Valley, Bonny Hills, Wauchope, Port Macquarie, Tenterfield and Coffs Harbour all attended to contest the prizes.
Moree entered two teams. The Moree Intermediate Ladies team unfortunately had to be disqualified with one lady having to pull out at the last minute due to injury. With no-one able to fill in, the team still took to the floor to showcase how hard they had been working in the months leading up to the event. The injured member was also part of the Open Under 33 team, however, beginner lady Christa Cronje jumped up and quickly learnt the extension work and positions that morning, to ensure the team was still able to compete. The team did not walk away with a place, but instead with full hearts and bursting with club spirit.
With the team competition complete, it was time for Champion Girl where Moree excelled. With five members qualifying for the Semi-Finals, three members qualifying for the Finals (top 12-15) and two members walking away with a place, it was a weekend to celebrate!
