The Bulls ended up defeating the home side 30-19, but Kelly said the result could have easily gone the other way based on their poor defence, especially out wide.

"The way we won was disappointing," he said.

"Bingara/Barraba started well - we defended a lot and our defence was looking good for the first five minutes but then they scored.

"Our defence in the second half, especially out wide, wasn't great; they made way too many line breaks. If they finished off all their line breaks, they would have won.

"We did finish the game off well and we did end up winning, but our defence, especially on the right hand side, was atrocious."

Kelly said he was pleased with how his side played for half of the game, but was not happy with the other half.

"It was a pretty scrappy game," he said.

"Bingara/Barraba are good at exploiting any weakness, and they did that with our defence out wide. They're a scrappy side and we always knew it would be tough but we didn't help ourselves.

"We dropped in and out of the game. It's like [the boys] would be asleep for parts of it and then wake up.

"But we scored some good tries and came away with a bonus point, so the result was good, but the performance, not so much."

Kelly said the performance was particularly disappointing following such a great game against Pirates two rounds before (Bulls first grade side didn't get a game last week as Quirindi's first grade team had to attend a funeral), during which the Bulls finally stepped up to their full potential.

"From what we did against Pirates to Bingara, that was very disappointing," he said.

Breakaway Jackson Fernance received the Bulls' points for his "blinder" of a performance in the number seven jersey on Saturday, while Damien Meppem also played well, despite recovering from the flu and only playing three quarters of a game.

"[Fernance] had his best game for the club, he was the best by a country mile," Kelly said.

"We needed a few more guys with the determination he showed on the weekend and we would have been fine."

The Bulls were missing two key forwards, Matt Wannan and Lachlan Smith, and suffered a few injuries in the backs during the game, with Dan Sweeney hurting his shoulder and Jono Spain injuring his hamstring.

Wannan will return this weekend, however Kelly is unsure at this stage whether Sweeney and Spain will be right to play against Walcha, which will be their biggest test yet.

Walcha are back at the top of the ladder, one point ahead of the Bulls.

Kelly said they need to work on their blind side out wide, and improve their attitude, if they want to win the top-of-the-table clash.

"If we let Walcha make as many line breaks as Barraba did, we'll be in trouble," he said.

"Barraba didn't finish some of them, but Walcha will finish them.

"There's always something to work on.

"[But at the same time] when we play teams like Pirates and Walcha we seem to lift."

The Bulls second grade side defeated Bingara 8-0 in what was a tight, low scoring game, while the women won one game (12-10) and lost the other (14-19) against Barraba/Bingara.
