Tamworth has commenced their Connolly Cup campaign in style, as a teen and a veteran delivered with the bat in a convincing away win over Moree on Sunday.

After winning the toss and batting, Tamworth finished on 8-278 off 50 overs, with youngster Callum Henry finishing not out 72 and skipper Ben Middlebrook belting a 56-ball 67.
In reply, Moree were dismissed for 171 in the 38th over.
On the eve of the match, Middlebrook touched on how excited he was to see how the young players in his side performed, after he returned from a long absence from the Connolly Cup to lead them.
Obviously, he was especially pleased with Henry’s performance, with the No.5 taking 77 balls to compile his score, which included eight boundaries, as he stayed in the middle for 105 minutes.

“He batted sensational, to be honest,” Middlebrook said. “He batted right to the end and really held our innings together.
“[He] ran hard and picked up the ones and turned them into twos. It was a really impressive knock.”
Aaron Hazlewood, a surprise inclusion in the Tamworth side, struck a 25-ball 33, while Landan Price was Tamworth’s best bowler (3-13 off 4.5 overs).
Chris Holland (50) and Tom Ryan (40) were Moree’s top-scorers, with Alf Newman taking 2-57 off 10 overs for the home side.
