Up first was young Williams up against unbeaten boxer Clayton Chatfield from Bathurst eager to continue his winning streak.

Coach Danny Cheetham said nothing was asked or given during the gruelling three-round bout but it was Williams who was awarded the unanimous points decision win.

“Connor’s opponent came out strong trying to assert his strength but Connor weathered the storm and used his reach to his advantage scoring some good body shots,” Cheetham said.

At the end of the second round the fight was still up for grabs. Cheetham told Williams he had to win the third round to win the fight.

“He went out and left no stone unturned and every judge gave him the win. It was an incredible round to watch.”

Next up in the ring was Moree’s Zac Crouch taking on a local Gunnedah fighter, who also held an unbeaten streak, Bailey Tull.

Wanting to impress his home crowd Tull came out hard and fast but Cheetham said Zac had “tremendous head movement”.

“Zac forced his opponent on the back move and clearly won the first round. In the second round, both boys decided to stand toe-to-toe in the centre ring and let bombs go.

“Zac landed with a horrendous left hook that knocked his opponent’s mouth guard out causing it to fly across the ring.”

The referee applied a standing eight count to the Gunnedah boxer who decided he wanted to continue, but by that stage Zac saw his opportunity. 

“Zac smelt blood in the water and went in for the kill… Scoring with left, right combinations giving the ref no option but to step in and stop the bout,” Cheetham said.

Crouch won by a second-round technical knock out.

Both boys will be backing up on October 20 to fight in Moree.

Tickets are on sale for the action-packed evening, held at the services club where Cheetham says there is not a bad seat in the house.

Hoping for 12 bouts on the evening, there will be plenty of entertainment with the added bonus of ring girls and Murray Hartin dropping by to preview his work.
