Rishenda Pluto took a day-long bus trip to Katherine Hospital before giving birth to son Roy Raymond Mawson.
Roy was born at 2pm on Anzac Day.
And on a cattle station a couple of hours away from Booroloola, Terrance Mawson was yet to find out he is a new father.
“Terrance is going to be really happy when he finds out, he was looking forward to the baby,” the new mum said.
“He’s out bush doing cattle work and he won’t be home until next month.”
Ms Pluto, from the east Arnhem town of Booroloola, about an eight-hour drive from Katherine, arrived just in time to have her baby at Katherine Hospital.
Travelling with her two sisters and mother, Ms Pluto said she was happy with the ample support from her family.
“We come from a small town and everyone pitches in to raise the kids,” she said.
Ms Pluto said her family was especially helpful and always provided a lot of support looking after her four-year-old daughter, Briony.
“I am looking forward to going home and celebrating Roy being born,” Ms Pluto said.
