The Moree side was one of 44 teams from Western Australia, Queensland and NSW which ducked, weaved, collided and showed plenty of skill across five divisions at TAS’ 14th annual carnival on Saturday and Sunday.
There was smiles all round for the 950 junior players over the course of the two days, and, to top it all off, the participants had the chance to rub shoulders with Wallabies coach Michael Cheika when he dropped in.
The Bulls’ under 12s side had a top weekend, recording two wins, two losses and one draw.
On Saturday, they were defeated by Tamworth 14-5 and Highland Goats 14-0, drew with St Peter’s Lutheran 10-10 and won against Padua 19-5.
They scored another win against Riverview White 38-17 on Sunday.
“Moree junior Bulls played hard and fair against strong competition,” Moree Junior Rugby Union Club president Chris Lamey said.
“There really aren't any stars in this group who played with great dedicattion to each other than anything else. This also showed up in injuries which was none. If everyone are doing their job no one is caught in positions to be hurt, one in all in throughout the carnival.”
Lamey said the players who particularly rose to the challenge were Arthur Greer, Will Sciban and Jarrod Hancock who played as well as they ever have.
“We had a majority of under 11 players rather then under 12s age group which made our team lightweight compared to other teams but watch out next year,” Lamey said.
“The Bulls also took under their wing two boys from the Gold Coast who knew no one else. These boys will remember the Bulls’ hospitality for a long time.”
Lamey thanked the Moree parents who made this tour a reality including John and Sarah Greer, Dan Reardon, Austin Finlayson, and Chris and Katrina Lamey.
