President of the Moree Support Group Mrs Jane Rohde is very pleased to report that the provision of the magnificent Moree green allowed for a devoted group of more than 100 players to tee off on a beautiful clear day and later retire back to the clubhouse for a barbecue provided by the Chopper rescue volunteers including Gail Goldman, Joy Holmes, Sue Thrift, Kate Gordon, Penny Jones and Mr Phil Rohde.
A raffle supported by McKnights of Tamworth, Mrs Sandra O’Mullane, Moree Westpac Bank Agribusiness and Gwydir Grove Olives was well received.
The presentation held after a speech by Ms Rohde referring to the many patients that the service attends to within the area and the important role this rescue team holds in providing support when things do go wrong.
“As in the case of a serious horse accident in July 2017, when local horse rider, Emma Botfield was out on her usual early morning route when she came off her mount causing a near fatal impact event,” Ms Rohde said.
“Emma was shortly after attended to by some close friends who were able to supply the ambulance service and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service team of her status, whereby the helicopter was dispatched and was waiting at the Moree airport for her immediate transportation to John Hunter Hospital.
“Since the accident Emma has made a full recovery and attributes this to the quick action of all involved. She has recently visited the Westpac Rescue team in Tamworth to thank them for all they have done.
“This great result is just one of thousands of lives each year that are impacted by the helicopter service. Fundraisers such as the Moree Golf Day are imperative in providing the funding required to retain this service of the air in remote and rural areas at no cost to the patient.”
The next fundraiser that can be supported will be a high value prize raffle drawn in December.
Tickets will be available from the Weebollabolla rugby ground on Saturday, April 7 and at the Moree Show on April 27 and 28.
The next fundraiser that everyone should visit is Moree On A Plate on Mothers Day, May 12, where guest chef and local identity Peter Birch will be cooking his famous paella, for the enjoyment of Moree and district .
