Angus Reardon, Arthur Greer and Sam Lamey were selected in the under 12s side, while Ed Montgomery and Hugh Ross were chosen for the under 13s team.
“As a club and town, we are thrilled to see these boys recognized and given the opportunity to play at a higher level, Moree Junior Rugby Union president Chris Lamey said.
“The zone is huge extending from Scone to Tamworth to Moree. They were up against the best in the zone so to be selected is a real honor.
“Congratulations to all these boys – we know they will ‘rock it’.”
The under 12s and under 13s kicked off their representative fixtures on Sunday with both age groups playing a match against the Central West representative teams at Coonabarabran.
Central West are typically a strong country zone, so this was a good test for the Central North teams.
The under 12s zone head coach was impressed by the Moree boys, who helped lead the team to a well fought victory over Central West 5 tries to 3.
“All three Moree boys played outstanding football in the forwards,” head coach Angus Patterson said.
“Angus Reardon played well above his weight securing lots of 50 / 50 ball for Central North. Arthur Greer was strong in both attack and defence playing the majority of the game. And Sam Lamey was busy at the breakdown contributing every time he got the opportunity.”
The under 13s also claimed victory over Central West 5 tries to 3. They had a great defensive game and took advantage of the opportunities.
“Both Moree boys has a good day,” head coach Chris Fowler said.
“Ed Montgomery displayed plenty of energy in defence as outside centre, gelling well with his backline in attack. Hugh Ross, playing at hooker, was solid in the breakdown and likewise combined well with his new team mates.”
A series of other representative fixtures are scheduled in March and April against Hunter, Mid North Coast and Central Coast. The season culminates in the Country Championships at Armidale on May 12 and 13 and the State Championships in Sydney on the June long weekend.
“The boys will be up against the best from across NSW at these championships. It is a great experience, as well as a huge development opportunity,” Lamey said.
