From second last young Sinclair’s six-year-old mare, Going Grey, ran around the outside to pass 10 other horses and cross the line in first place for the benchmark 50 handicap 1300 metre race.
But that was not the end of his success as Cool Stinger, trained by Sinclair and owned locally, finished a close second place.
“I bought her [Going Grey] on an online auction. She’d been racing near Taree and I thought she had the potential to win a few out this way,” he said.
So far the mare has won four starts for Sinclair, and he was impressed with her latest run on Saturday.
“She jumped out okay and settled back in second last, going around the turn she was still in second last but then she ran around the outside to pass another of my horses, Cool Stinger, to finish first,” Sinclair said.
She’d been racing near Taree and I thought she had the potential to win a few out this way.
Cool Stinger also finished in second place a few weeks back in Goondiwindi.
In race six, benchmark 60 handicap 1200 metres, Sinclair’s Gilded Spirit finished in third place, behind his father’s trained horse I Am Dynamic in second and Medal Afrique trained by Luke Morgan in first place.
“Thanks to everyone who helps out at the stables if not for them I wouldn’t be able to do what I do,” Sinclair said.
The Sinclair’s are now preparing for a New Years Day meet in Inverell.
Meanwhile, the first race of the day, a maiden handicap 950 metre, was won by locally owned horse Le Dazzle- a four-year-old grey mare.
Thousands of people from all around Australia attended the Moree Twilight Races on Saturday. Fashions on the Field was a tough choice for the judges.
“I think it was a good day, a good crowd and good for the club too,” Sinclair said.
