The U8s entered two teams and played six games all together.
“Both teams starting to play some better structured play at the rucks and mauls. The idea that they play for a team is also starting to show through, with kids looking to off load to players in better positions,” coach Damien McCormick said.
Players to mention include: Will Gillingham, George Diprose. Best defensive efforts from Thomas O’Shea and Roger Vickery. Will Gillingham, George Diprose, George Tighe, Josh Slacksmith and Alex Warby.
The U10s also entered two teams playing three games each. After a fresh start, we knew it was set to be a great day out for our U10s. Being able to run two teams is always beneficial, as it guarantees all the players great field time.
“With six games ahead of us, we knew our first game was going to be tough. Moree started strong with two early tries but was overcome by a strong finishing Narrabri going down by two tries.
“Our game against Barraba was immediately after the first and the lads were ready for a win and didn't disappoint. They went on to face Coonabarabran, Walcha, Quirindi and carnival hosts Tamworth in the last match of the day,” coach Craig Warby said. Special mention must be given to: Zander Bell, Jack Gall, Hunter Warby and Harry George together with Max Fernance, Hugh Reardon, Will Stevenson, Will Slacksmith and Tom Barnes.
The U12s entered two teams into the carnival with five games being played.
“Senior players such as Edward Montgomery and Connor Quinn led well from the front with highlights being two perfectly timed cut out passes from Edward to Joe Bartlett which resulted in long range tries,” Coach James Quinn said.
“Jared Hancock played his best carnival with a strong performance in holding up his side of the scrum and working tirelessly in the tight, his work rate and involvement during the entire carnival was excellent. Logan Mihill also excelled in the centres with a strong performance in attack and defense and had a great deal of success when he straightened the attack.
“Two of the smallest forwards in both Angus Reardon and Sam Lamey continued to be ever present and extremely effective at the breakdown.”
Other notable mentions go to Kaylan Prince, Hamish Marshall, Jake Marshall and Charlie Boydell who are improving carnival by carnival and starting to really impress the coaches. The U6s had a skills day with NSW Rugby development officers. The next carnival will be in Quirindi on August 6.
