The competition starts in July with all members being able to play an 18 hole game every Thursday and gain points for the final competition.
The top ten are then picked to play on the first Thursday of December at a ten hole sudden death competition that’s point based and the furthest away from the hole is dropped.
This year, the top ten were Guy Roberts, Paul Wilde, Bill Maidens, Gerald Humphries, John Humphries, Peter McFadyen, Howard Meppem, John Hannan, Lindsay Williams and Ken Amos.
The game took three and a half hours and ended in a sudden death shoot out between Paul Wilde and Ken Amos. Paul Wilde won against Ken Amos on a putt off at the final hole. With Howard Meppem dropping out on the eighth hole.
Guy Roberts fell off on the first hole.
Moree Veterans Golf vice captain, Howard Meppem, said Wilde was in a sudden death putt off in the first round.
“He went from sudden death to winning the whole game,” Meppem said.
“It really is just a fun competition we play for ourselves. We play by the rules but we do sledge each other.”
Wilde received a $200 gift voucher for first place and Ken Amos received a $100 gift voucher for his efforts.
“We just get to relax with some beers. Everyone had a great time. We laughed and cheered and clapped. If gives us something to play for five months. People thanked me for organising it.”
The Moree Veterans Club will be holding their presentation night this Thursday at 6pm.
