I wish to congratulate Moree Plains Shire Council on its recent decision to continue to support the maintenance of the rage cage in south Moree.
As one of the people who fought so hard and even lobbied and secured the funding for this facility from the then-Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr, this is great news as it wasn't an easy task with many debates on where this facility should go.
At one stage I was even told by a former councillor to send the money back because it wasn’t needed in south Moree.
I continued to fight for an area for our youth to play.
I have seen many young people over the years use this facility and many families around the area have taken great pride in watching over it.
If there is broken glass they have taken it upon themselves to clean it up so the youth of south Moree have somewhere to play.
I believe council’s decision to continue to maintain it is fantastic for the area.
With the recent announcement of the upgrade to the facility at the old league’s club and a new school for Moree East, the decision by council to continue to support and maintain the rage cage in south Moree is another step forward.
It will continue to make the community family-friendly and I invite all residents of south Moree to enjoy the facility.
Once again, congratulations to Moree Plains Shire Council on this decision.
