Moree Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Moree Plains Shire Council and Tourism Moree, have once again planned two special shopping events for this festive season.
Christmas in Moree will be officially launched with a late night shopping evening this Thursday, November 29 where all participating retail stores will remain open until 8.30pm.
A majority of stores along Heber and Balo Streets, including Harvey Norman and Wayne’s World, will be keeping their doors open from 5pm to 8.30pm to provide those who can’t make it to the shops during business hours the opportunity to begin their Christmas shopping.
Shoppers will be treated to in-store hospitality and refreshments, as well as live entertainment along the main streets of the CBD by Moree Community Choir, Moree Town Band, Moree Pipes and Drums, and Moree Ukulele Group, as well as performances by Jacqualyn Drenkhahn and the Mitchell family.

Moree Lions Club will also be doing a barbecue, while Cafe Omega and Cafe 2400 will stay open late for the occasion. Cafe 2400 will once again have a special menu for the night.
With Moree’s local businesses feeling the pinch of the drought, Moree residents are encouraged to shop local this year more than ever.
“We want to get everyone shopping locally, we’re really pushing that,” Moree Chamber of Commerce’s Dibs Cush said.
“It’s been really tough, way more than any other year.
“No-one has really started shopping yet, so we’re hoping this will be a starter for Christmas shopping.”
For those still needing extra time to tick off their lists, the Moree CBD will come alive with Christmas fever for an open shopping weekend on December 8 and 9.
Retailers and cafes will be open from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, December 8 and from 10am to 1pm on Sunday, December 9.
Shoppers and families are encouraged to take advantage of the extended trading hours, while enjoying roving live entertainment, buskers, free face-painting and a visit from Santa.
