The St Philomena’s student recently won the Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association (AWPA) 2017 NSW pee wee (eight years and under) title at the Deni Ute Muster, held on September 29 and 30.
It was the first time Ed has competed at the Deni Ute Muster, although in August he also won the Australian Stockwhip Challenge at the Ekka (the Royal Queensland Show).
The six-year-old appears to be following in the footsteps of family friend Henry Pitman, who also came away with the NSW title in the junior (16 years and under) section at the Deni Ute Muster.
Henry, aged 14, is the current Australian Champion in his age division and has been claiming Australian titles since he was seven years old.
He, along with big sister Georgia, has been competing in the NSW titles at Deniliquin for the past six years.
“He’s won most years he’s been there,” Henry’s father Andrew Pitman said.
The Pitmans, who have been doing whipcracking for many years now, have taken the Whibley family under their wings over the past two years and now Ed and his older siblings Hamish, Paris, Sophia and Georgia are also showing great potential in the sport.
“They love it, it’s so much fun,” mum Lisa Whibley said.
“Thanks to the Pitman family for all their help and patience.”
Paris, Sophia and Georgia Whibley also competed in the NSW titles at Deni Ute Muster, coming away with some top results.
Sophia, aged 12, came second in the juvenile (12 years and under) division, followed closely behind by sister Georgia, aged 11, who placed third.
Meanwhile, Paris placed fifth in the junior division and eighth in the bullock whip competition.
The Whibleys and Pitmans now have their eyes set on the Australian titles at the Sydney Royal Easter Show next year.
