Moree’s friendly faces, rich Aboriginal culture, jaw-dropping landscapes, agriculture, animals, artesian water and of course our beautiful sunsets were all on display at the MyMoree Photography Exhibition on Friday evening.
In August budding photographers and lovers of the Moree Plains were invited by the My Moree Facebook page team to show them what My Moree means through photographs.
The popular page, created to showcase the wonderful things Moree has to offer, was inundated with an array of images and thus began the ever-so hard task for judges to pick finalists for four different categories.
On Friday evening, more than 100 photos were on exhibit as finalists in the competition running for the Grand Jury, People, Place and Plain Life Prizes.
Mayor Katrina Humphries had the pleasure of announcing Maelle Morgan’s photo of a gorgeous sunset the Grand Jury winner.
She thanked the brains behind the #MyMoree initiative Susannah Pearce and Libby Carter for making the night, and competition, a possibility.
Roz Zillman took out the place prize, while Robert Dunn was awarded the Plains Life category and a stunning image of three Aboriginal girls, shot by Jeddy Laura Fernando won the people prize.
A $500 voucher to spend on photography equipment at Harvey Norman was awarded to Roz, Rob, Jeddy and Maelle.
Maelle will also be joined by five friends to experience Ultimate Moree Plains Day package including a catered lunch at Trawalla Pecan Nut Farm, Mick’s Limousine transfers, and a soak and sauna at Moree Artesian Wellness Centre to finish.
The humble winner said she did not take the picture in the hopes it would win a prize.
“We were just walking our dog on a trial around Ashley and I took this photo on my iPhone so I am pretty happy to have won,” she said.
After liking the My Moree Facebook page, Maelle decided to enter the image, as it was a nice scene showcasing Moree. “When I think of My Moree I think of our beautiful sunsets and I thought the photo was a great capture of Moree,” she said.
Head down to the Moree Plains Gallery to see all of the local finalists and their images featured in the exhibition.
Be sure to search and like the ‘My Moree’ Facebook page to keep up to date with the flourishing initiative.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE
Finalists of the MyMoree Photography Competition have one last chance to scoop up an amazing prize - and that winner rests in the hands of you as a local resident.
The prize for People’s Choice is still open and due to there being more than 100 photos in the final exhibit, it’s not an easy task.
A few votes were already placed at the opening night on Friday.
Residents are encouraged to pop in to the gallery to view the images, see if your own photograph, or someone you know, made the exhibit and most importantly vote for People’s Choice.
Each image is numbered and the lucky image with the most votes by the end of the exhibit will take out the People’s Choice prize.
The Moree Plains Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10am until 5pm and Saturdays from 10am until 1pm.
This stunning, one-of-a-kind exhibition will run until October 14. Be sure to pop down!
