A total of three carps were caught at Gum Flat Reserve throughout the weekend of August 19 and 20.
Seven-year-old Araya Berger caught the biggest carp, which weighed in at 3kg.
Heath Caccianiga, aged 12, caught a 1.5kg carp, while seven-year-old Kyle Rummery caught the third carp, which weighed 0.5kg.
Moree Lions Club’s Vicky Lyons said all the children who attended had a great time.
“It was a cold and windy day but that did not put off those smiley faces and their passion,” she said.
“Councillor George Chiu was also kind enough to have brought fried rice for the kids and parents.”
This was the third fishing weekend hosted by Moree Lions Club as part of the Lions’ Centennial project, and is funded by the Department of Primary Industries Habitat Action Grants.
The next fishing day is scheduled for Sunday, November 19 – the last event for 2017.
Another event is also temporarily scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Moree Lions Club is hoping to seek more funding to run the fishing day event on an annual basis.
