Wallets, cigarettes, phones and electronic devices have been stolen from 11 vehicles this month. The majority of vehicles have been unsecured and/or with valuables on display.
“Thefts from vehicles are happening with increasing regularity right across the command and most items are left in plain view making them easy targets for criminals.
“These offenders are keen to take advantage of any item left in sight from sunglasses, cash, electrical devices, food or any type of bag which they think may contain valuables,” Barwon LAC Duty Officer, Inspector Kylie Chinnery said.
“Whilst it might seem unfair, or unreasonable it is unfortunately no longer the case that residents in country towns can afford to be complacent with crime prevention.
“We must work together to improve security, report criminal activity and protect our communities” she said.
“Lock your homes, lock your cars, don’t leave valuables in plain sight and if you witness persons acting suspiciously or activities that seem strange and out of the ordinary then report it to your local police straight away – nobody knows your community better than you”.
Anyone with information about overnight incidents should call their local Police.
