Angus Reardon, Sam Lamey and Hunter Warby were selected to play for the Central North Under 11 representative team against Mid North Coast on Sunday.
The Moree boys played two matches.
In the first match, they were up against the older Central North Under 12 representative side.
The U11 forward pack, which the boys were in, held their own against a larger and more experienced U12 pack.
But in the end, were defeated by a series of runaway tries.
In the second match, they came up against the Mid North Coast U12 representative team.
It was a tight game but the boys came away victorious winning five tries to four, a valiant effort considering the age difference.
“In the breakdowns, Sam Lamey really made his presence felt, with good aggressive cleaning out,” Central North coach Jason Elms said of the Moree boys.
“Hunter Warby was prominent in ball carries and in his usual fashion made some denting tackles.
“Angus Reardon was across the entire paddock, making several try saving tackles in cover defence and was solid in the breakdowns.”
This is the first-year Central North has put together an U11 representative team.
The aim is to provide the most talented players with further training and higher level match play, lifting the level of rugby across the zone and preparing them for future representative rugby.
The boys were selected from over 150 eligible players in the north west.
In addition to Angus, Sam and Hunter, Will Slacksmith, Gilbert Tighe and Logan Mihill from Moree were also selected in the Central North 36-man development squad.
From the development squad the three boys were picked for the U11 representative team that played in Dorrigo.
Moree Junior Rugby Union coach, Dan Reardon was impressed with the high level of skill shown by the local boys.
“All these boys need to be congratulated on being selected at a higher level.
“We have a really talented group of young players in Moree at present and it is great to have the opportunity for them to further their rugby if they want,” Reardon said.
An U11 representative team will go on to compete in the State Championships in June where they will be playing the best in the state in their age group.
