At Moree Boxing Academy, it has always been much more than just teaching boxing – it’s about turning young people’s lives around through boxing.
“Moree Boxing Academy teaches the youth of our community that boxing is not about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you were the day before,” Moree Boxing Academy junior and senior boxing instructor Colin ‘Chalky’ Rice said.
“If young people can be introduced to the sport of boxing during their critical years, the discipline and respect they learn can steer them down the right path in life and make it easier for them to say no to all the distractions such as drugs and alcohol.”
Chalky said boxing promotes discipline and respect for authority.
“If students can acquire the discipline to stick to a training program, they can apply that discipline to their school and careers, to be stronger than their strongest excuse,” he said.
“The Boxing Academy takes pride in teaching and helping the youth of our community in improving self-esteem, emotional control, mental toughness, confidence, and, of course, fitness.
“The stories and feedback we receive from the parents about the transformation that occurs in some of our boxers since they started boxing training is extremely positive.”
At the Boxing Academy, there’s no religious difference, no skin colour or physical differences. The Moree Boxing Academy will cater for everyone, you don’t have to be a competitive boxer.
“We’re all the same here and there is a place for everyone,” Chalky said.
A variety of classes and training is provided, including a junior boxing and fitness program for girls and boys aged eight to 14, senior boxing for 15 years and up, mixed BoxHIIT classes, as well as the women’s boxfit class.
Classes focus on general fitness, cardio and strength training, as well as boxing technique tailored to individual style.
Safety is a number one priority when training and all boxers will be under the supervision of accredited coaches.
The Moree Boxing Academy is situated at the Moree Showground. Everyone’s welcome to call in and check out what they have to offer you and your family.
