Westpac is not only Australia’s first bank to celebrate 200 years, but the first company in the nation to mark a bicentenary. The first Westpac Bank opened in Sydney on April 8, 1817. The Moree branch opened just under 60 years later in 1876.
To celebrate the milestone, the Moree branch will be holding a morning tea on Thursday, April 6 and an open day on Friday, April 7.
National head of agribusiness Steve Hannan will be attending Thursday’s morning tea and Moree mayor Katrina Humphries, whose father used to work for the branch, will have the honour of cutting the cake.
The whole community is invited to come in for birthday cake and ice blocks at the open day on Friday,
“It’s to acknowledge and recognise our customers and give a little back to them,” bank manager Emma Brazel said.
Old ledgers, photographs and memorabilia detailing the Moree bank’s history will be on display.
