The gallery was one of nine centres chosen to host the 2017 Art Express exhibition – a showcase of some of the best Higher School Certificate bodies of work by year 12 art students.
Each Art Express exhibition is different, with the curators from each gallery given the opportunity to select which artworks they wish to include in their display.
Moree Plains Gallery director Vivien Clyne said Art Express is their “blockbuster exhibition for the year”.
“It’s a really great exhibition,” she said. “We curate it ourselves, so it’s tailored for our audience. We make sure we target local artists and target certain themes.”
Three local artists will be featured in the Moree exhibition – Moree’s Jessicah Briggs who attended Abbotsleigh Private Girls School and Charlie Grellman who went to Knox Grammar School, as well as Narrabri High School student Margaret House.
The Moree exhibition will cover five themes - the natural world, state of affairs, alternate realities, home stories and new traditions.
Opening night will be Friday, April 7 at 6pm.
Being the last day of school for this term, Ms Clyne encourages teachers, students, parents and members of the community to come along and admire the outstanding works on display.
“It’s important for students of all ages to come and have a look, but also a lovely thing for parents to come and see what their children could do in art classes,” she said.
“[The exhibition] shows how diverse the themes in art can be; you can cover all bases with art and it’s always relevant. It’s great for HSC students to use their art and touch on issues relevant to them. It’s a really excellent achievement for all students and the culmination of all their hard work.”
The exhibition will run until Saturday, May 27. On May 11 and 12, Art Express educators will be coming to Moree to conduct workshops for students in stages five and six, and will also run a professional development workshop for teachers.
Local schools will also have the opportunity to book tours for groups of 20.
