Today (Tuesday, February 14) was not only Valentine’s Day but Moree’s 50th day of suffering through temperatures over 35 degrees.
This equals the state record for the most number of consecutive days above 35 degrees, which was set in Bourke in 2012-13.
If tomorrow also reaches a top of 35, Moree will have beaten Bourke’s record.
Walgett and Mungindi were also vying to break the record, however yesterday Walgett only reached a top of 33, putting it out of the running.
Now it’s just a matter of seeing whether Moree or Mungindi will be the new record-holders and just how long the new record will be.
As Moree sweltered through it’s 50th day of temperatures above 35 degrees, the Moree Champion took to the streets to find out how locals feel about the record-breaking heat spell.
