Some have stayed and ventured to the online business portal, while some have spread their wings and taken their small town ideas to bigger places.
Moree’s Samantha Horton is one of these wonderful women, who has always loved being involved in unforgettable events.
It seems only fitting that Samantha started her own events business Firefly Events and Project Management.
Not long after leaving Moree in 2008, she started her own venture in to the world of planning and creating spectacular events, and even got to meet royalty.
“I left Moree in 2008, like many others I left town to go to university and see what life in the city was like.
“Once I finished my events degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast I worked at different businesses and organisations, including the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA), it’s here where I met Princess Anne,” she said.
The RASC event Samantha organised, which included a tour with delegates around the great south-east to some of the state’s best farming areas, along with hosting HRH Princess Anne to the RNA, was a highlight of her career.
It seems as though Samantha has already done it all, working with the royal family, at the massive Queensland event Ekka and organising charity events with sporting starts.
“Working with the royal family and their team was a real honour,” said Ms Horton.
As they say home is where the heart is and Samantha hopes to create the feeling of home when she works on a country wedding in Moree.
“I love going home, so it’s a dream being able to work with this bride and bring this Moree wedding to life.”
She has also recently joined a local Moree committee to help bring more events to town.
“Since starting Firefly we have helped events come to life, including the popular Fainga’a Twins Think Pink Charity Dinner.
“We have lots of great events in Brisbane on the pipeline, but I do love working with country folk and helping them bring their ideas to life.
“Whether it’s a large agricultural conference, Christmas function or black tie wedding, we specialise in helping from conception to completion.”
Samantha has proved that growing up in Moree holds no limitations to your future.
