Bulls beat Walcha

The Bulls were unable to put a point on the board in the first half of the match, with Walcha by far the better team, as was reflected in the 19-0 halftime score.

Moree first grade co-coach Simon Hall said it was a slow start, one they seem to be making a habit of.

“It was not the best start,” he said.

“It’s the enigma of this season, we just can’t seem to start well.

“We don’t seem to kick into gear until our back’s against the wall. But once we switched on it was really good. Once we got in some quick ball and got over the advantage line, our game opened up a bit.

“We know our best footy can match it with everyone.”

Hall said their three backs Ben Legg, Kyle O’Connor and Heath Riggs played well and the “whole forward pack in the second half was outstanding”.

Walcha first grade coach Barry Hoy said it was a game of two halves.

“They had the second half and we had the first,” he said.

“I’m pretty happy with the way we played, although our executions could have been better. Moree defended pretty well when they got their tails up.”

Walcha are now out of the competition, which Hoy said was disappointing.

“If you get to the finals, you want to go all the way,” he said.

“You always aim for the big one at the end.”

Meanwhile Hall said it was good to have a win in front of a home crowd and to remain in finals contention for another week.

“It’s good to keep moving on,” he said.

“The boys have been working all season for this.

“The grand final is really achievable if we knuckle in this week.”

The Bulls will now progress on to the final this Saturday, August 27 where they will face the Narrabri Blue Boars to play for a spot in the grand final against the Tamworth Pirates.

Bulls second grade side will also be up against the Blue Boars in Narrabri this Saturday.
