Twenty jerseys will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with funds raised going towards the Men of League Foundation.
Community members who would like to bid on the jerseys, but can’t be at the game can contact any of the Men of League committee members to make their bid known.
Each year our local Men of League organisation fundraise for the foundation, which then allocates money from its fund for local projects.
“In the three years since we started in Moree we have offered financial assistance to people who have fallen on hard times,” Moree Men of League president Tony Woodham said.
“In one instance we renovated an older ladies bathroom, her husband had been very sick, and she was needing upgrades to her bathroom to help care for him.”
Tony said that the organisation has also given financial assistance to members of the community who have needed to travel away, for doctor or specialist appointments in Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane.
The organisation has also provided food vouchers, fuel vouchers, accommodation vouchers, and general support for members of the community in need.
The network of 150 members will hear of someone in dire straits and in need of a hand, and the men then approach them and see if there is anything they can do to help.
“People are a little bit reluctant to come and say I need help,”Tony said.
The Moree Men of League then apply to the Men of League foundation in Sydney who pass the application through their welfare board and return to the local chapter with a package.
Tony would like to encourage more members of the Moree community to join, membership is $20 and tax deductible.”
Men of League membership is open to all men, women and children who have an interest in rugby league.
The Men of league is a charitable organisation with chapters based throughout Australia, with a particularly strong presence in Queensland and New South Wales.
Since its conception the Men of League foundation has offered more than $4.5 million in good will.
The Moree Boomerangs are currently sitting in fifth place on the Group 19, first grade ladder, with the Moree Boars sitting at sixth. The Men of League game will see the Boars take on the Hawks this weekend, the Hawks still on a high after taking out the Macintyre Warriors last weekend, in what was the teams first taste of defeat.
