A game that saw the Warriors remain unbeaten and three points clear at the top of the table in a hard fought victory.
As with their first home game, a large crowd was once again in attendance at the Boggabilla Sports Ground in cold windy conditions.
The Boars jumped out of the blocks, scoring a soft try to their front rower beside the posts to take a 6-0 lead. The quick start sparked the Warriors into action with Malcolm McGrady crossing out wide for the first of his three tries. Kerrod Sampson’s conversion from the sideline locked the score up at 6-all.
The Boars responded with the next two tries to take a 16-6 lead before Kerrod Sampson crossed for the first of his two tries narrowing the gap to just six points with the Boars in front 16-10.
Then with only seconds remaining in the first half nothing was going to stop a rampaging Rick McGrady to cross beside the posts.
Sampson added the extras to lock the halftime score at 16-all. Coach McGrady’s half-time negotiations certainly had the desired effect, with the Warriors looking like an entirely different team in the second half, lead by Malcolm McGrady getting his second and third tries in quick succession.
The points preceded tries to Liam Close, Kerrod Sampson and the very much in-form Clyde Hickling.
The Boars Captain Coach Brenton Cochrane scored two great solo tries to narrow the gap. However, the Warriors ran out convincing winners 44-28. Malcolm McGrady and Kerrod Sampson shared in the Warriors awards.
This Saturday will once again see Boggabilla’s population swell, with Guyra’s Super Spuds making the trip West to milder conditions to attempt to be the first team to knock off the unbeaten Warriors.
With the two sides having already met twice this year, there have only been two points separating them. There will only be the two games with the gates opening at 12pm and the Reserve Grade kicking off at 1pm, followed by the First Grade.
