The Highlanders were celebrating the 10th anniversary of their maiden first grade premiership and, like they did that day, almost got the better of the Bulls.
They led them 11-9 at half-time.
But as they have had a knack of doing this season, the Bulls ground it out and snuck home 18-16 after trailing 16-15 with around three minutes remaining.
Ben Carrigan's sixth penalty put them two ahead but from the kick-off they got isolated and were penalised, giving the Highlanders one final chance.
The kick though didn't quite have the legs and from the 22 drop-out, the Bulls defended for the next minute and a half before earning a penalty and kicking the ball out.
Again they found themselves on the back foot early, but like they did against Barraba last week and other games before that, they were able to work themselves back into the game.
"We had heaps of field position and heaps of possession but Inverell's defensive line was really up for it," Bulls co-coach Simon Hall said.
"It was still a pleasing win and pleasing effort.”
