Moree Race Club secretary, Michelle Gobbert, said it was the most people the race club had ever had at a race meeting.
“At least it wasn’t super hot and thanks to the marquees we could spread people out a lot more,” she said.
“I know of someone who was coming from Catherine in the Northern Territory just to attend our race.”
Mrs Gobbert said the club was still processing everything but it was the most successful race meet for the club.
“We need big race meets. It gets us through the year and helps us to continue our work like improving our facilities.”
Both marquees included music styling’s from Colin Carr and James Rohde. The Jared Scott and Route 67 played for those who wanted to enjoy entertainment trackside.
“We sold out tickets for both marquees but On the Rails was certainly the favourite. The party tents went quite well especially in their new locations.”
Best Dressed Young Lady was taken out by Jessica Thompson, Lisa Moore won Best Dressed Lady, Craig Lockhart received Best Dressed Gentleman, Best Dressed Couple was won by Susannah and Oscar Pearse and Best Hat or Fascinator Amelia Smith.
Mrs Gobbert said for the size of the crowd everyone was really well behaved. Local trainers and jockeys had a great run. In the first race, Riddling Miss, trained by Andrew Gray, won and Peter Sinclair’s horse Secret Thoughts came fourth.
In race two, Peter Sinclair’s horse Cool Rules came second, Cee Em Dee also trained by Peter Sinclair won the last race of the day.
On December 20, race goers were invited to the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre Race Recovery and Christmas Party. Attendees were offered relaxing acoustic music from the Jared Scott Band, free entry to the water slide betwe
en 11am and 4pm and free bacon and egg rolls. Santa Claus also turned up on his Harley Davidson and did a lap around the artesian spas which the children loved.
