A spokesman for the company behind the project, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), said there's just a few tasks left to do on site.
"The Moree Solar Farm is entering the final stages of construction," Technical manager, Tom Best, said.
"The installation of all key components is complete and we are starting commissioning. The connection to the electrical grid is still being finalised and we hope to have the farm connected by Christmas," Mr Best said.
“The purpose of the Solar farm is to help develop knowledge about the construction of large scale solar farms in Australia and to produce clean renewable energy for at least the next 25 years.”
The project is funded by FRV with the support of the Australian government through a grant of AUD$101.7 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and debt on commercial terms from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).
Around 150 people had been working on the project since March but that has dropped, moving from the construction to production phase.
Moree Plains Shire Council (MPSC) mayor, Katrina Humphries, said it has been a long journey but we have got it.
“It is a wonderful development and it means we can pull our weight as members of Australia in producing energy without having to take drastic measures.”
The solar farm is expected to supply 15,000 homes.
