More than 130 teams completed in the knockout, which was the highest recorded number in the events long, 45-year history.
OBU manager, Mitchell Cosgrove, said the team, in their second year of the competition, placed fifth making the final eight.
“The players were selected by form, there were 18 Moree players and a few who also had connection to the town or family from Moree,” he said.
Cosgrove said OBU played four tough games against Illawarra, Bourke, Comeback Dreaming and the Redfern AllBlacks. “We lost to lost to Redfern all blacks 18-6,” Cosgrove said.
“They ended up advancing ahead and were the overall winners of the NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout.”
He said the biggest highlight was making it to the quarterfinals only the second year in the knockout.
“The standout players were Stan Swan, Chris Vidler, Leslie Boney who won three awards, Zac Sampson and Robert Lane who won the Bruce Delphine Munro and Dan (pa) Memorial Rising Star Award but every player stood out individually,” he said.
About 15,000 people visited Dubbo over the four days to compete and enjoy a feast of top-level rugby league.
Teams were drawn from all corners of the State and included current and former NRL players
