Caitlin, 10, was diagnosed last year with an intellectual disability but this does not slow her up.
Competing in five events at the Northern Rivers Zone Athletics Championship, on August 14, where she placed first in each of her five events, earning the Junior Girls paraAthlete Champion for the second year running.
Placing first in 100 metres, 200 metres, discus, shot-put and finished second in the long jump. This resulted in Caitlin qualifying for state selection in all five events. Caitlin said she enjoys competing and winning.
“I don’t get nervous and I am looking forward to competing again.”
Caitlin also enjoys making new friends when she is competing and showing good sportsmanship.
Her brother Thomas, 12, diagnosed earlier this year with Autism Spectrum Disorder, along with other diagnosis.
Thomas was successful at Northern Rivers Zone Athletics Championship in Lismore, placing second in discus and third in the 100 metres and 200 metres Senior boys Para-Athlete division.
Unfortunately Thomas was just out of qualifying for state finishing fourth and fifth for his events at regionals.
Thomas said he was happy to be able to compete at both Zone and Regionals this year.
"I hope to do this well next year in High School.”
Thomas is also hoping that Caitlin is successful at Homebush.
"If Caitlin does well, we might be able to go to Canberra and watch her," he said.
At Homebush, if Caitlin places in any of the top three podium finishes, in any of her events, she will then be invited for selection to compete at Nationals in Canberra.
There she will be up against some of the best primary school competitors, in her division in Australia.
