According to police, a body was found about 1pm this afternoon by two kayakers from Launceston on the South Esk River at Perth.
It is believed to be the body of Mr Plowright, who went missing in May.
"At 1pm this afternoon two Launceston men were paddling on the South Esk River near Perth. They saw in the river what they believed to be human remains," Inspector John King told a media conference this afternoon.
"Tasmania police have subsequently reattended that location with our search and rescue squad and retrieved a body from the river.
"The identity of that person is not clear at this stage, however Tasmania police strongly suspect it is the body of a man who was reported missing earlier this year in May."
Inpsector King said that the location where the body was found was near the end of Arthur street near the Perth township.
He said that location was an area police had searched extensively previously and had combed the area using drones.
The body will now be sent to Hobart for examination by a pathologist and a report will be made to the corner.
Mr Plowright's family is currently in Europe on holiday and has been notified.
